Željko Krnčević is an archaeologist, museum curator, and long-time director of the Šibenik City Museum, but above all, a curious explorer of life in all its layers. His work and interests connect heritage, people, and everyday life - from archaeological sites to old recipes and customs. He is a long-standing member of the Šibenik Photo Club and the author of the show “Gourmet Chats”, through which he preserves the local customs, flavors, and memories of the Dalmatian region. He shares his passion through numerous projects, initiatives, and encounters with people, always guided by the belief that values and knowledge should be shared. That is exactly why, here and now, he personally guides you through the Šibenik-Knin region. “I have actually been an archaeologist for as long as I can remember. My grandfather, a veterinarian and a great lover of archaeology, used to tell me as a boy in the 1960s that he would make a little stick that could detect metals and finds beneath the ground. Today we would call it a metal detector, but back then, it was an almost unreal idea that he wove into his stories. Later, I graduated in archaeology and began working at the Šibenik City Museum as curator of archaeology. That calling completely captivated me. I devoted my entire working life to medieval, or early Croatian, archaeology, but I am equally fascinated by prehistory and the ancient period. The Šibenik area is exceptionally rich in archaeological finds, from the Neolithic and Antiquity to the Middle Ages, which is precisely why there is always something new here to explore, discover, and experience. I would especially recommend visiting to anyone interested in archaeology and photography. The combination of these two passions is unique in this area; many sites are equally impressive from the ground and from the air, through the lens of a camera or a drone. I am in love with my region, its history, and its people. Even today, although I am retired, I do not stand still.
