A Gothic gem of Šibenik with a rich cultural heritage
The Church of St. Francis was built in the second half of the 14th century on the southeastern edge of Šibenik's historic core. It is a single-nave Gothic structure, with a simple design lacking decorative elements. It is notable for the Chapel of the Holy Cross from the 15th century and a 14th-century fresco in the lunette above the main entrance. The church also houses an organ built by the famous instrument maker Petar Nakić in 1762.
It’s worth visiting for the adjacent Franciscan monastery, which holds a rich collection of cultural and historical treasures, including a library with 140 incunabula and the "Šibenik Prayer," one of the oldest Croatian literary monuments.
