Croatian Coral Center Zlarin - a centuries-old tradition of coral cultivation on the island of Zlarin

The Croatian Coral Center Zlarin innovatively presents the centuries-old tradition of coral fishing on the island of Zlarin, the most significant cultural heritage of the Šibenik archipelago. The first written records of the Zlarin residents as renowned coral hunters date back to the 15th century. Red coral is interwoven into the life, history, and tradition of Zlarin, known as the "island of coral." By opening the Center, red coral becomes a catalyst for the island's development through biodiversity conservation. The exhibition's author, Ana Katurić, employs multimedia, films, and sound recordings to tell the story of Zlarin and its corals. The Center also provides education on nature and culture, and the impressive kinetic sculpture "Common Breath" by Paolo Pilij is located on the top floor. The mission is to preserve cultural heritage, while the vision encompasses the development of social life on the island.
