Faust Vrančić Memorial Center - Guardian of the legacy of a genius and innovator
The Memorial Center "Faust Vrančić" opened in September 2012 as a result of a successful project initiated by the local community, co-financed by EU funds. The main exhibition is located on the ground floor, while the upper terrace, surrounded by a Mediterranean garden, features life-size models of Vrančić's inventions. Visitors can enjoy a view of the Prvić Luka bay along with refreshments at the center's café. Faust Vrančić, one of Croatia's most important humanists, was a lawyer, philosopher, inventor, and politician. His Dictionary of Five Languages, published in 1595 in Venice, is the first Croatian and Hungarian dictionary. In his collection of inventions, "Machinae novae," he describes 56 different devices, including the parachute and innovative bridges. His works include philosophical discussions and a collection of biographies of early Christian martyrs, while his manuscript "Illiryca historia" remains unpublished in Zagreb.
