Šibenik Bridge - a symbol of connection and the beauty of Dalmatia
The Šibenik Bridge spans the mouth of the Krka River on the Adriatic Highway, measuring 350 meters in length with a main span of 290 meters. Construction began in early 1964, led by the engineering firm Mostogradnja and chief engineer Stanko Šram from Zagreb. The bridge was opened to traffic in July 1966.
Following the completion of the Adriatic Highway section from Zadar and Biograd to Martinska, traffic became very heavy, with ferries operating from dawn to dusk, causing long vehicle queues, especially of tourists during the summer months. During this time, the old wooden "Tratica," known as the pinica, was the only connection, with a capacity for about ten cars and a few heavy vehicles. At peak times, large crowds of young bathers would rush to the ferry. Martinska was a popular bathing spot, while Jadrija and Zlarin were favored destinations for the urban elite.
