St. Michael's Fortress is the place where the city of Šibenik was born. Built during the Middle Ages on a hill in the middle of the town, it provides a breath-taking view of Šibenik and its surroundings. It is also one of the the most prestigious open-air venues in Croatia, known for it's summer concert seasons and performances of great Croatian and international stars.
The fascinating history of the fortress is narrated using modern technology: audio guides and 3D mapping in the centuries-old cisterns, along with a souvenir shop offering authentic products where you'll surely find something interesting to take home.
The best way to reach the fortress is to take a walk (or should we say "hike") through the old town, narrow streets and steep stairs, and feel the real Mediterranean as it once was. If you want to save some time and energy you can approach the fortress from the higher, north side.
