The church of our Lady of Tarac
In one of Croatia’s most beautiful national parks, the Kornati, on the island of Kornat, lies the church dedicated to Our Lady of the Visitation, known as Gospa od Tarca. Built in the 17th century on the remains of a 6th-century Early Christian basilica, this modest single-nave church was partly constructed from the remains of the old basilica. It is believed that the basilica served as a refuge for sailors seeking shelter in nearby bays. Today, only the apse remains, but the church holds great religious, cultural, and touristic significance. On the first Sunday of July, a vow procession of boats takes place here, one of the most beautiful in Croatia.
