Journey through Šibenik's nature – from Šubićevac to Orlovača.
The starting point is in Šubićevac Park, from where you start uphill along a forest path. The first part of the trail is relatively easy compared to what follows, and will introduce you to the outskirts of Šibićevac, the largest Šibenik neighborhood, and "treat" you to views of the outskirts of the city and the islands of the Šibenik archipelago. After crossing the hill, the trail descends into the suburban settlement of Dubrava, where its flattest and least strenuous part is. Across the field, you reach Rakovo Selo, where another small climb follows and a crossing over a valley dotted with olive groves and macchia. Upon reaching the Šibenik junction on the A-1 highway, the trail crosses this road through three tunnels and begins its most beautiful, but also most demanding, part, the climb to Orlovača Hill. From this part, forget about flat parts and downhill sections, because for a while there is only one direction waiting for you - uphill. The first part of the climb is also the most difficult, it is very steep and requires good physical fitness. Arriving at the plateau above the Ploča tunnel, the first serious views of Dubrava and the entire coastal part of the Šibenik-Knin County open up. From this part, the path continues along a marked hiking trail that climbs Orlovač from the north, which means that you can enjoy views of most of the Šibenik hinterland throughout the climb. The Krka River canyon, the Promina and Dinara mountains, and numerous villages and hamlets of the Šibenik region are in front of you the entire time. Ideal for getting to know the entire region. At the top of the trail, you enter the Orlice Wind Park, through which a wide macadam road leads, and beautiful views open up on both sides. The view from the top of the 500-meter-high Orlovača is particularly impressive towards the sea, and on clearer days, you can also see distant Croatian offshore islands such as Svec and Biševo. It is particularly attractive to watch the sunsets from this hill, but the aggravating circumstance is that it also means returning after dark, which we would not recommend at all, because the path back to Dubrava descends along a steep and technically demanding mountain descent towards the hamlet of Rupići. However, if you believe that the sunset from here is something you should not miss, so as not to return after dark, it is best to reach the top of Orlovača by car on another occasion, along the macadam road that starts from Tromilja. Our path, however, returns through Dubrava towards the hills above Šibenik, climbs towards Kamenar and finally returns to the starting point on Šubićevac. A truly superb route for all lovers of long walks and mountaineering, it will tire you out.
